Who We Are

CINGS (China Institute Next Gen x Serica)

Statement of Purpose: CINGS stands at the intersection of environmental protection and social equity. As a collaboration between the China Institute and Serica, we champion initiatives that drive both knowledge sharing and on-ground action.

Mission: The China Institute Next Gen x Serica (CINGS) convenes next generation leaders with a passion for tangible social and environmental impact through connecting and inspiring like-minded leaders to create actionable change.

Value: The China Institute Next Gen x Serica (CINGS) serves as the official next generation members of the China Institute with an active membership base that will help to increase impact and influence for the organization through dialogues, seminars, networking, and cultural and culinary events. We aim to be the premier platform and community to convene young leaders who will be the future changemakers in the U.S.-China relationship to influence society through education, programs, and strategic philanthropy.

China Institute provides a rich history and comprehensive platform for institutional support, with almost one hundred
years of engagement with China, existing programming and outreach, an exceptional physical space, and strong brand recognition to draw more young professional and next gen members.

Three Pillars of CINGS:

  • Actionable Change – provide a framework for impact investing and micro philanthropy, opportunities for
    strategic philanthropy through the flagship Giving Circle to support social innovators, non-profit initiatives, and
    community-based projects, and develop relationships with grassroots and AAPI organizations
  • Next Gen Evolution – build a strong community of young professional leaders through networking, cultivate
    next gen boards and philanthropic training, mentorship, and social activism
  • Convening Influence – create impact through inspirational programming, educational dialogue, and leadership

Purpose: to serve as a forum for young professionals and leaders to build meaningful connections, engage in strategic
philanthropy, participate in insightful dialogues with the hopes of bridging cultures through these exchanges. The objective is to collectively address common global challenges through establishing the foundations of healthy civil society engagement rooted in global values such as opportunity, transparency, and equity.

CINGS is dedicated to making a difference, transforming insights into tangible actions. We invite partners, donors, and participants to join our journey towards a sustainable and equitable future.

CINGS Applicant Requirements:

  • Between 21 and 40 years in age
  • Based anywhere in the U.S., China, or another country
  • Committed to making contributions and building bridges between the U.S. and China
  • Strong professional and academic backgrounds, with proven execution abilities
  • Changemakers dedicated to tangible action and impactful results

CINGS Member Expectations:

  • Serve an ambassadorial role, promoting CINGS’ mission, goals, and accomplishments to professional and personal networks, as well as building cultural bridges
  • Facilitate the creation of new connections and projects between China Institute, Serica, CINGS, and philanthropists
  • Be recommended by China Institute or Serica staff, or an existing member
  • Go through a rigorous application and interview process
  • Join at least 1 CINGS Committee
